Jeffrey J. Asperger


A principal and founding member of Asperger Associates LLC, Mr. Asperger's practice includes the handling of complex and multiparty litigation involving negligence, product liability, contract, commercial liability, design and professional liability, contamination and pollution, transportation and maritime disasters. He has recovered over $100 million in verdicts and settlements for his clients, and has been named to the Super Lawyers® list.

Mr. Asperger's broad courtroom experience includes representing clients in various state and federal courts nationwide, having been admitted pro hac vice in over 40 jurisdictions. He is a member of the Federal Trial Bar. Mr. Asperger has been involved in a number of high-profile cases and has been admitted and argued in federal and state courts of appeal throughout the country, generating a number of recognized and regularly cited appellate decisions.

Mr. Asperger is a frequent lecturer and participates in the activities of RIMS, the Property Loss Research bureau, Western loss Association, Blue Goose International, the Litigation, Construction, Products Liability and Tort & Insurance Practice Sections of the American Bar Association, the Propeller Club of the United States, and the Maritime Law Association. He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, and is active in supporting many charities and the arts.


Representative Experience

  • Construction: Mr. Asperger has recovered substantial sums on behalf of building owners, business owners and their insurers for building design, mechanical system, electrical system and construction product failures which have occurred under a variety of circumstances, including failures in hurricane force winds. His representation in building structural failures and collapses has contributed to changes in standards for pre-engineered building systems.
  • Admiralty & Maritime: Mr. Asperger is a Proctor in Admiralty. He has represented clients in investigations involving the National Transportation Safety Board, the United states Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers. He has addressed issues involving the Jones Act and the Carmack Amendment.
  • Insurance: Mr. Asperger has represented businesses and insurers in risk management and loss prevention from the claims handling stage through trial and appeal. Mr. Asperger provides opinions in first party property, general liability and subrogation claims, and he has litigated allegations of bad faith, unfair claims handling, deceptive trade practice, and unfair consumer practices. Mr. Asperger has represented clients in appraisals serving as counsel, appraiser and he has been appointed umpire. He has lectured and authored papers on a variety of coverage issues.
  • Fires and Explosions: Mr. Asperger has been counsel in some of the largest fire and explosion disasters in the country. His experience includes: a record $39.5 million verdict in one of the country's largest fire losses; petrochemical fires and explosions; a dust explosion in the world's largest grain storage facility; electrical distribution system fires in hi-rise buildings; utility system failures and fires; and, flammable fluid fires on the world's largest mining and earth moving equipment.
  • Product Liability: Mr. Asperger's product liability experience began when he coauthored Part I of the 1979 Report and Recommendations on Product Liability for the Illinois House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Product Liability. The White House Office of Management and Budget noted that the Report was the only source available at the time for data on the "product liability crisis." Mr. Asperger's product liability trial experience includes construction products, consumer products, automotive products, agricultural products, industrial systems and machinery.
